APPEAL FOR CONCRETE AND SINCERE MEASURES LEADING TO THE SPEEDY CREATION OF A FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATE OF PALESTINE

On behalf of COMPLETE, we write in with a sense of anger, grief, desperation, helplessness and frustration by the recent events and current impasse in Gaza, but with the hope and determination that the world has finally awakened to the realization that a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian tragedy is urgently required.

COMPLETE stands for COALITION OF MALAYSIAN NGOs AGAINST PERSECUTION OF PALESTINIANS, a coalition of more than 100 NGOs that cuts across racial, religious and political lines in Malaysia. We are not aligned with any Palestinian political faction, preferring to deal with the Palestinians as a united people. We intend to work closely with foreign NGOs with similar objectives, and together as a worldwide united front of NGOs, act as an effective pressure group to governments, pushing for a speedy creation of a free and independent state of Palestine.

The current Gaza crisis is the latest in the history of the Palestinian tragedy which started 60 years ago with the forced creation of the state of Israel. The Palestinians have since been displaced, made stateless, humiliated, dehumanized, terrorized and massacred. This gross injustice to the Palestinian people, the majority of whom are Muslims, is probably the single most important reason for the Middle East Crisis, and the rise of ‘Islamic’ terrorism around the world.

The Palestinian tragedy is a humanitarian tragedy of monstrous proportions in terms of the scale of human suffering and duration. The international community must make a highly concerted effort to ensure a just and comprehensive resolution in the near future or face even greater violence and instability in the Middle East in particular and the world in general.

Israel’s recent barbaric invasion of Gaza with the deaths of more than 1300 Palestinians, 40% of whom were innocent children and women, and the intentional destruction of the infrastructure including hospitals, schools, police stations, mosques and even UN centres, is unbelievable, unacceptable, immoral and without any sense of human decency. Its continued arrogance and intransigence in not abiding with numerous UN Security Council resolutions and in ignoring numerous UN General Assembly resolutions since 1948 is an affront to the international community.

China is a major player both diplomatically and economically. China does not have the reputation as an unconditional supporter of Israel. We therefore ask the government of China to exert its diplomatic weight to lead the international community to honestly seek a just and speedy political solution to this conflict, end Israeli occupation, and restore the dignity of the Palestinian people and their right to self determination in line with past UN resolutions.
For this political solution to succeed and endure, we believe Israel needs to be brought to the negotiating table with the Palestinian leadership chosen democratically by its people.

Meanwhile we implore China to urge both parties to end hostilities and compel Israel to act within the bounds of international law and discharge its obligations as an occupying power. Failure to find a lasting and just political settlement to this conflict will not only prolong the pain and suffering of the Palestinian people, it will also prolong the peace and security problems that have been plaguing our world.

Muslims have an obligation towards their brethren who are in adversity. The plight of the Palestinian people has a special place in the hearts of muslims all over the world. The recent aggression on Gaza has shown that this spirit of brotherhood, concern and sympathy for the sufferings of fellow Muslims remain very much alive.

As the 2 Holy sanctuaries are located in the Kingdom, Saudi Arabia has a special place in the hearts of muslims. Endowed with abundance of wealth from its natural resources, muslim nations naturally look up to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for leadership. In the context of the Palestine tragedy, the leadership of the Kingdom, specifically the then Crown Prince Abdullah made a major diplomatic contribution with the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002 although unfortunately this has not come to fruition largely due to Israel’s intransigence.
We, therefore, urge the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to continue its efforts in rallying governments of Muslim and Arab countries to take a unified stand in condemning Israeli aggression and exert diplomatic pressure on Israel towards a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian tragedy.
We also urge the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

1. request other muslims nation that recognize Israel to break diplomatic relations with the Zionist state

2. request members of the UN Security Council to pass a resolution to impose an immediate arms embargo and economic sanctions on Israel

3. request world leaders and eminent persons to seriously consider bringing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity to the political and military leaders of Israel

We believe the above measures will isolate and compel Israel to seriously negotiate to end the tragedy leading to the creation of a free and independent state of Palestine. We strongly urge your government to seriously and sincerely consider our proposals with an open and clear conscience and compassion for the sake of world humanity and peace.

South Africa under the leadership of the ANC government that led it out of the darkness of apartheid, is today the most influential nation diplomatically and economically in the African continent. The steadfast struggle against the brutal apartheid system earned today’s South African leaders the respect and admiration of the whole world. Yet, half way across the world the Palestinians are still languishing under another apartheid that is just as, if not more brutal, inhumane and oppressive. The latest aggression on Gaza is testimony to this. Just as the world supported South Africans in their struggle, we place hopes in your esteemed government, to lead the international community in condemning Zionism which parallels the apartheid of former South Africa, and exert diplomatic pressure on Israel towards a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue.

We urge the government of South Africa to :

1. consider breaking diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Israel
2. request the UN Security Council to impose and immediate arms embargo and economic sanctions on Israel

It takes exceptional courage to make frank criticism of Israel and its leaders on the world stage. Your prime minister’s action sets an example for other leaders to follow in showing their disgust at Israel’s invasion of Gaza and creates additional pressure on the international community to resolve the Palestinian tragedy. Turkey’s chairmanship of the OIC is timely. We trust that your government would have the resolve and determination to rally OIC members to push for a just and comprehensive resolution of the plight of the Palestinian people.

APPEAL FOR A NATIONAL UNITY GOVNMENT IN YOUR JUST STRUGGLE AND FIGHT FOR A FREE AND INDEPENDENT PALESTINIAN STATE

On behalf of COMPLETE, we write in with a sense of anger, grief, desperation, helplessness and frustration by the recent and current events in Gaza, but with the hope that it provides the impetus to the citizens of the world to seek a deeper understanding of the conflict and to show solidarity with the Palestinians, the real victims. We hope the world will finally wake up to the realization that a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian tragedy is urgently required.

COMPLETE, which stands for COALITION OF MALAYSIAN NGOs AGAINST PERSECUTION OF PALESTINIANS, is a coalition of more than 100 NGOs currently cutting across racial, religious and political divisions in Malaysia. We are not aligned with any Palestinian political faction preferring to deal with the Palestinians as a united people. We intend to work closely with foreign NGOs with similar objectives, and together as a worldwide united front of NGOs, act as an effective pressure group to governments, pushing for a speedy creation of a free and independent state of Palestine.

The current Gaza crisis is the latest in the history of the Palestinian tragedy which started 60 years ago with the forced creation of the state of Israel. The Palestinians have since been displaced, made stateless, humiliated, dehumanized, terrorized and massacred. This gross injustice to the Palestinian people, the majority of whom are Muslims, is probably the single most important reason for the Middle East Crisis, and the rise of ‘Islamic’ terrorism around the world.

The Palestinian tragedy is a humanitarian tragedy of monstrous proportions in terms of the scale of human suffering and duration. The international community must make a highly concerted effort to ensure a just and comprehensive resolution in the near future or face even greater violence and instability in the Middle East in particular and the world in general.

Israel’s recent barbaric invasion of Gaza with the deaths of more than 1300 Palestinians, 40% of whom were innocent children and women, and the intentional destruction of the infrastructure including hospitals, schools, police stations, mosques and even UN centres, is unbelievable, unacceptable, immoral and without any sense of human decency. Its continued arrogance and intransigence in not abiding with numerous UN Security Council resolutions and in ignoring numerous UN General Assembly resolutions since 1948 is an affront to the international community.

We, therefore, strongly urge your esteemed government to:
1. form a national unity government between Fatah and Hamas to represent a credible one voice for the Palestinians
2. be patient and steadfast in your just struggle and fight for a free and independent Palestinian state
3. be aware that the latest Gaza tragedy has convinced more nations to push for a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian crisis

We believe our little effort will slowly but surely help to isolate and compel Israel to seriously negotiate to end the tragedy leading to the creation of a free and independent state of Palestine. We believe that Allah has ordained that justice will finally prevail in one form or another.

OPENING OF RAFAH CROSSING

On behalf of COMPLETE, we write in with a sense of anger, grief, desperation, helplessness and frustration by the recent and current events in Gaza, but with the hope and determination that the world has finally awakened to the realization that a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian tragedy is urgently required.

We intend to work closely with foreign NGOs with similar objectives, and together as a worldwide united front of NGOs, act as an effective pressure group to governments, pushing for a speedy creation of a free and independent state of Palestine.

As an immediate neighbor with a common border with the Gaza Strip, Egypt has the responsibility of ensuring access of humanitarian aid, essential medical supplies, relief and medical personnel to help the Palestinian people in the latest deadly episode of Israeli aggression.

As with other concerned citizens of the world, including the people of Egypt, we express our outrage and disgust that the government of Egypt to this day remains adamant in not opening the Rafah crossing beyond token measures, such that large quantities of essential items are unable to be delivered to the victims and relief personnel have great difficulty in entering Gaza. It is shocking beyond comprehension that while the people of Gaza are being starved and bombed the government of Egypt would rather allow massive quantities of food items brought from around the world to rot instead of allowing them entry into Rafah.

We therefore urge the government of Egypt to immediately open the Rafah crossing for the above purposes. We also urge the government of Egypt to allow entry of war victims to Egypt and facilitate their travel documents for further medical treatment in third countries, including Malaysia, where pledges have been made to treat these victims.

Secondly, we hold the government of Egypt directly responsible for the current escalation of persecution and aggression on the people of Palestine. Without Cairo’s subservience to Tel Aviv and Washington, the economic blockade and military aggression on the people of Gaza would have been difficult for Israel to carry out. Cairo’s policies and actions betray the expressed sentiments of the people of Egypt and the Islamic people in general, eroding the position of Egypt as one of the cultural and intellectual centres of the Muslim and Arab world. We therefore urge the government of Egypt to cut off diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Israel in line with the common policy of the great majority of the OIC until a just and lasting resolution of the plight of the Palestinian people is achieved.
